Amazon describes the movie as such:

Based on a chilling true story, Lionsgate’s The Haunting in Connecticut charts one family’s terrifying, real-life encounter with the dark forces of the supernatural. When the Campbell family moves to upstate Connecticut, they soon learn that their charming Victorian home has a disturbing history: not only was the house a transformed funeral parlor where inconceivable acts occurred, but the owner’s clairvoyant son Jonah served as a demonic messenger, providing a gateway for spiritual entities to cross over. Now, unspeakable terror awaits when Jonah, the boy who communicated with the dead, returns to unleash a new kind of horror on the innocent and unsuspecting family.

This movie was everything I wanted for a night of horror goodness. Well cast actors, decent dialogue, unexpected scares, an engaging story, and twists around every corner. They combined suspense and timely revelation nicely, which is appreciated. I can’t stand it when a movie takes too long to give you the punchline of where they are going with a slowly unraveling revelation. Their visuals grabbed you, and their scares weren’t cheap. I actually found myself jumping and cringing on a couple of occassions during the movie.

I watched this with my daughter, age 10, and hubby. If your child can handle scary movies (mine is a horror buff) this should be an ok one to watch, there wasn’t a lot of bad language nor were there sex scenes. Just keep in mind this is scarier than the average horror flick, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you have a child sensitive to such things.
